Jason Statham Martial Arts

by Jason Statham Workout Coach

If you’ve watched some of Jason Statham’s movies such as The Transporter series in which he plays the lead, you may think that those macho fight scenes in which he uses martial arts to dispense with his enemies are all body doubles or digital effects, however, you may be surprised to know that those are actually him.
Jason Statham was instructed in martial arts by none other than Corey Yuen, a fight choreographer who attended the same school as Jackie Chan. In interviews, Statham’s stated that when he was younger, he was inspired by the likes of Bruce Lee (who isn’t?) to take up the martial arts.

In the movie “War”, in which Jason Statham stars opposite Jet Li, you’ll notice that martial arts plays a huge role in the film as well, which is unsurprising as the film is about the Chinese Triad. Corey Yuen choreographed the fight scenes in this movie as well.
Jason Statham has made quite a name for himself in the action movie industry, starring along-side many legends such as Sylvester Stallone and Bruce Willis in the film “The Expendables” which is about a bunch of more-than-qualified mercenaries attempting to overthrow a Latin American tyrant.

Jason Statham and his martial arts knowledge

Jason Statham has stated in interviews that he has drabbled with all forms of the martial arts, from kickboxing and Win Chun to karate. He’s mentioned that Yuen likes to combine various fighting styles rather than just stick to one.
Jason Statham seems to have a very deep understanding of the martial arts. When confronted with the issue of kids now practicing mixed forms of the martial arts, Jason Statham said that the martial arts actually are meant to bring peace and that it’s a sort of discipline. The people who actually start bar fights and street fights have no such form of it. He points out those martial artists that practice any particular form of the martial arts such as ju- jitsu and judo are actually very peaceful people and they only show aggression in a competitive atmosphere.

Once Jason Statham was thrust into the spotlight, he realized how important it was to maintain his perfectly shaped body thanks to his previous experience with the martial arts. It is because of this knowledge and also his experience as a world-class diver, coming in twelfth position in the World Championships in 1992, that he is fit enough to perform all is stunts.

Jason Statham uses martial arts in his workout routine

Jason Statham has also featured martial arts in his grueling fitness routine in which he encourages people to learn and hone a new skill. He suggests the use of punching combinations. Unlike other workout routines, that makes you exercise four hours a day, the Jason Statham workout routine only requires 35 minutes a day, six days a week with a run once a week. This routine lost him seventeen pounds in six weeks. The routine also called for six meals a day keeping alcohol to bare minimum and only lean meats and greens with plenty of water. Jason Statham has gained much recognition for his insistence that he himself should perform all the fight sequences in his films. In War, he was up against the renowned martial artist Jet Li and could almost match up to the legends prowess at the martial arts.
